Materials Science Undergraduate Program

The Materials Science and Engineering program at the University of Minnesota is one of two undergraduate programs in the Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science. The Bachelor of Materials Science and Engineering (B. Mat.S.E.) degree is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET. In the 2012/2013 academic year 38 students graduated from this program, going on to a broad spectrum of positions in industry, in addition to some of the highest ranked graduate programs in the country. Our graduates receive a rigorous education in the fundamentals of Materials Science and Engineering, featuring first class laboratory experiences with state-of-the-art instrumentation, and detailed training with modern scientific and engineering tools. These students develop outstanding problem-solving skills, a deep knowledge base, and excellent analytical skills, equipping them for a wide variety of successful careers.
