CEMS Alumni Field Trip to Santa Fe
Join us for the first Chemical Engineering and Materials Science field trip.
The destination is Santa Fe, New Mexico, from September 18 to 21, 2008. CEMS Alumni and guests can soak up the history, art and culture that make Santa Fe one of the most interesting places to visit in the country.
Santa Fe is situated at the foothills of the Rocky Mountains in northern New Mexico. It is the oldest capital in the United States, and is referred to as "the City Different". It is well known for its Pueblo and Spanish Territorial styles of architecture, its artists and art galleries, museums, and the flora and fauna that are part of the beauty of its natural landscape.
Some of the sites included in the itineray are:
- Palace of the Governors, built in 1609, and other historic builings around the plaza
- Muesum Hill, including the International Folk Art Museum, the Museum of Indain Arts and Culture, and the Museum of Spanish Colonial Art
- Ildefonso Pueblo which lies in the shadow of Black Mesa, famous for its pottery
- A trip up the old Taos High Road to see the historic mission churches
- Pecos, the historic pueblo Indian and Spanish Colonial trading center
- A reception at the home of one of our Minnesota alumni
There will also be time for exploring on your own. There are many sites that we simply do not have time to visit as a group. In addition, there is an optional fly fishing trip scheduled for Monday, September 22. No experience is necessary - all equipment and instruction will be provided.
The cost of the trip is $600, which includes most meals, local transportation, events listed in the itinerary, and passes to museums. Air fare and hotel costs are not included. A block of rooms has been reserved at the La Fonda on the Plaza at the special rate of $209 per night (plus tax, single or double occupancy). The optional fly fishing package is an additional $240 per person.
