Notes and calculators WILL NOT be allowed in the exam. You should not require
a calculator, as any math will be simple arithmetic. - 10/29/09: HW 5 has
been modified, and is now updated on the homework page. Please note that 2
problems have been added, and some small modifications have be made to the

question 2 of HW 4 in two parts. First, look up how many cars are in Minnesota,
and assume 20 MPG. Then, compare this to the acreage of corn in Minnesota. Is
it enough? Second, use the crude oil number for the entire US, then determine
if we grow enough corn in the entire US to replace gasoline (you should know
this second answer from the billion ton study) - 10/01/09: Lectures 7

so it is important that it is completed in-full. Additionally, homework
credit is discounted for late submission by the following function:

2, the carbon content of food must be used. Provide a reasonable estimate of
this figure and state your assumptions. You can also look to other resources for
