Announcements

- 11/24/09: Exam solutions, along with the most current lectures are now posted. Email micha252@umn.edu with "ChEn5551 Grade Report" in the subject to get a report of your current grades.

- 11/22/09: HW 8 is now posted

- 11/16/09: Mark von Keitz's lectures are now posted

- 11/03/09: Cecil Massie's lecture and HW5 solutions are posted.

- 10/30/09: The lectures have been changed to PDF for readability, and are now updated. REMINDER: Notes and calculators WILL NOT be allowed in the exam. You should not require a calculator, as any math will be simple arithmetic.

- 10/29/09: HW 5 has been modified, and is now updated on the homework page. Please note that 2 problems have been added, and some small modifications have be made to the existing problems.

- 10/28/09: Lecture 15 and HW 5 have been posted. Please note that in the HW statement handed out in class, there is a typo. Coal should be assumed to be CH, not CH2.

- 10/27/09: Lectures 13-14, and Roger Ruan's Lecture has been posted.

****THE MIDTERM EXAM WILL BE HELD ON NOVEMBER 5, 2009****

- 10/6/09: Answer question 2 of HW 4 in two parts. First, look up how many cars are in Minnesota, and assume 20 MPG. Then, compare this to the acreage of corn in Minnesota. Is it enough? Second, use the crude oil number for the entire US, then determine if we grow enough corn in the entire US to replace gasoline (you should know this second answer from the billion ton study)

- 09/11/09: REMINDER homework will account for a large portion of the grade in this class (~50%) so it is important that it is completed in-full. Additionally, homework credit is discounted for late submission by the following function:

- Note: in HW1 problem 2, the carbon content of food must be used. Provide a reasonable estimate of this figure and state your assumptions. You can also look to other resources for a number, but please cite your source.
