Trivia
- Although the chemical engineering major was established at Minnesota in 1892, the first chemical engineering professor was not hired until 1919.
- Neal Amundson served as Acting Department Head from 1949 to 1951 while the University searched for a successor to Charles Mann. Their search failed, and Amundson was promoted to Department Head, where he remained for 23 years while raising the department among the best in the United States.
- The yearly budget in 1950 was $80,000; the yearly budget in 2004 was $17,000,000.
