Education
Lithium batteries, electrolytes, chemical sensors
Dr. Venkatasetty worked at Honeywell Inc. for over 25 years as a senior research
fellow doing research and development work in many areas. His most recent work is in
lithium batteries (related to nonaqueous electrolytes and polymer electrolytes) and
electrochemical sensors (based on nonaqueous electrolytes and polymer electrolytes) and
humidity sensors. He has worked on thermal energy storage materials for solar energy
utilization. He has worked with operating divisions to translate research results into
products.
Dr. Venkatasetty has written many successful proposals to the Department of Defense and
private organizations, and he has successfully completed contracts totalling several millions
of
dollars. The properties and structures of thionyl chloride-based electrolytes for high rate
Li/SOCl2 power systems were developed by him for the Naval Ocean System Center, San
Diego. He was principal
investigator for three contracts on Li/SO2 battery safety studies sponsored by Naval
Surface Weapon Center, Silver Spring, MD. He developed a low-cost CO sensor based on
nonaqueous electrochemistry sponsored by the Gas Research Institute, IL. He developed
an electrochemical carbon dioxide sensor for diver's underwater breathing apparatus
sponsored by the Naval Coastal Systems Center and for the Space Shuttle for Johnson
Space Center (1990).
