Norris Research Group

The goal of research in the Norris group is to tailor the optical properties of materials by controlling size, shape, and structure. In addition to investigating fundamental principles, each of our projects is pursued with specific applications in mind. Future research will address two main areas: Doped Semiconductor Nanocrystals and Thermal Plasmonics. Applications include photovoltaic and thermophotovoltaic solar cells, respectively. Prashant Nagpal publishes in Science

July, 2009. Prashant, along with Nathan Lindquist and Prof. Sang-Hyun Oh from ECE, published a report on their recent work on ultrasmooth metals in the July 31, 2009 issue of Science. See this link for the paper.

Will Tisdale receives DDF

May, 2009. Will received a Doctoral Dissertation Fellowship (DDF) from the Graduate School of UMN which will support him during the final year of his Ph.D. research (2009-2010). These fellowships are granted as part of a University-wide competition and are given only to students who show exceptional promise for their future careers. Will joins Lijun Zu, Kurtis Leschkies, and Prashant Nagpal as former DDF recipients from the Norris group.

Sang Eon Han defends and starts postdoc at MIT

February, 2009. Sang Eon defended his Ph.D. thesis entitled, "Thermal Emission with Periodic Microstructures," on 2/25/09 and became Dr. Sang Eon Han. The group celebrated with Sang Eon and wished him well as he starts his new postdoctoral position at MIT.
