CEMS

Undergraduate course in Materials Science. In 1998 it was co-taught with Chris Palmström. It presented an introductory quantum mechanical treatment of electrical and magnetic properties of solids. Topics included, an overview of quantum mechanics (wave nature of the electron and solution of the Shroëdinger equation for simple cases), concepts in band theory (band gaps, effective mass, etc.), electronic transport, doping of semiconductors, structure and properties of some electronic devices, lasers, superconductivity, and magnetic properties. This class has in average 25 students registered.
