Advanced Materials

Study, develop and process advanced materials, such as polymers, ceramics, organic semiconductors, and magnetic materials that are at the heart of valuable technological applications.

Materials Chart
  • Ceramics and Metals

Measuring and improving mechanical behavior of ceramics and other materials, modelling the processing of ceramics, developing new ceramic materials with interesting properties. Studying high temperature properties of minerals and planetary materials.

  • Coating Processes and Interfacial Engineering

Development of models and materials for coating, as well as examining coating processes, with applications to adhesives, magnetic disks and tapes, intergrated circuits, and the production of polymer electronics on flexible substrates.

  • Crystal Growth and Design

Understanding and modelling crystal growth, studies on crystalline organic semiconductors and nanocrystals, properties and modelling of thin films.

  • Electronic, Photonic and Magnetic Materials

Development of materials with novel electronic, optical, and magnetic properties.

  • Polymers

Developing polymers for new applications, such as drug delivery and compact disks, studies on natural polymers, advances in biorenewable and biodegradable polymers, nanoscale morphology in melts and solutions, rheological properties.
