2D zeolite research featured on cover of Angewandte Chemie International Edition

Jan. 23, 2017 - Meera Shete, a Ph.D. candidate in the Tsapatsis group, is the first author of a communication in Angewandte Chemie International Edition, which was designated as a VIP (Very Important Paper – a designation given to less than 5% of manuscripts in this journal) and was featured on the front cover of the January 9 issue.

Shete discovered synthesis conditions that allow control of zeolite crystal growth with unprecedented nanometer precision. In collaboration with other researchers at CEMS, the University of Houston, Argonne National Laboratory, Ankara University, Augsburg College, and King Abdulaziz University, she succeeded to monitor by atomic force microscopy and X-ray diffraction the evolution of 2-dimensional zeolite nanosheets at the single-unit-cell level. The discovery opens new directions for controlling molecular sieve thin film growth for membrane and sensor applications and for the design of heterogeneous catalysts with hierarchical porosity and multiple catalytic functionalities.
