- Assistant Professor David J. Flannigan is one of eight recipients nationwide to be named a 2015 Beckman Young Investigator (BYI) and will receive a grant of $750,000 to support his research, "Unraveling Charge/Orbital Ordering, Magnesium and Lattice Dynamics with Ultrafast Electron Microscopy."
The Beckman Young Investigator Program was established in 1991 to provide research support to the most promising young faculty members in the early stages of their academic careers in the chemical and life sciences, particularly to foster the invention of methods, instruments, and materials that will uncover new avenues of research in science.
A previous recipient of the Beckman Young Investigator award with ties to the Department includes James W. Schneider (Ph.D. ChemE '98) who received the award in 2002. He is a Professor at Carnegie Mellon University.
