- Brittany Forkus, a fifth year chemical engineering Ph.D. candidate, was awarded an Institute for Engineering in Medicine (IEM) Walter Barnes Lang Fellowship to attend the Recent Advances in Microbial Control (RAMC) meeting in San Diego, California in October. Forkus was awarded the $1,000 fellowship for her research on "Engineering Probiotic Bacteria for Pathogen Reduction in Poultry." Forkus works with Professor Yiannis Kaznessis on the development of antibiotic-alternatives for livestock use.
