- PPG, a global leader and supplier of paints, coatings, and specialty materials, has identified the University of Minnesota’s Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science (CEMS) and Department of Chemistry as priority university partners because of the two programs’ renowned strengths in polymer science, interdisciplinary research, and long history of industrial training. As a result of this partnership, PPG has renewed their generous support of graduate fellowships in CEMS, with a special focus on students studying within the IPRIME Coating Process Fundamentals and Microstructured Polymers programs, two programs that strongly align with PPG’s businesses and technology. PPG has leveraged this partnership to recruit graduate talent from the CEMS program. In addition to fellowship support, PPG’s gift will support outstanding teaching assistant awards, create a named seminar within the Poly/PMSE student group, and establish a named Annual Chemistry Graduate Student Research Symposium.
