- Assistant Professor Qi Zhang has been selected for a Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) Award from the National Science Foundation (NSF) to support his project “Optimization-Based Computational Discovery of Decision-Making Processes.” This prestigious award provides support for junior faculty who exemplify the role of teacher-scholars through outstanding research, excellent education and the integration of education and research within the context of the mission of their organizations.
The grant will support Zhang’s work on the statistical learning of unknown decision-making processes from data. The proposed research aims to advance the theory and algorithmic treatment of this fundamental problem, with applications in advanced manufacturing, sustainable systems, and metabolic engineering. Through the proposed integrated research and education activities, Zhang and his team will teach future scientists and engineers to use advanced decision-making tools and promote interdisciplinary collaborations between researchers in the broad field of decision science.
