UMN researchers featured in PBS program NOVA Beyond the Elements: Reactions

Feb. 5, 2021 - CEMS Professor Emeritus Ed Cussler and other UMN researchers including Joe Franek, Eric Buchanan, and Cory Marquart were featured in “Reactions,” the first episode of NOVA's Beyond The Elements! television series on PBS. The episode aired on February 3.

Filmed in July 2019 at the University of Minnesota West Central Research and Outreach Center (WCROC) and University of Minnesota Morris, the episode explains that just about every solid, liquid, or gas in the world as we know it begins with reactions between individual atoms and molecules. Host David Pogue dives into the transformative world of chemical reactions, from the complex formula that produces cement to the single reaction that’s allowed farmers to feed a global population by the billions—a reaction that when reversed, unleashes the powerful chemistry of high explosives.

Cussler is featured in the segment regarding the Haber Bosch Process (at 15:20).
