- Hwanhui Yun, a fifth-year ChE graduate student in the Mkhoyan group, and Yichao Zhang, a third-year MSE graduate student in the Flannigan group, won 2019 Microscopy & Microanalysis (M&M) Student Scholar Awards. Yun won for her paper, "Visualization of Misfit Dislocation Network at the BaSnO3-LaAlO3 Interface." Zhang was awarded for her paper, "Direct Imaging of Localized Anisotropic Acoustic-Phonon Dynamics in MoS2." The application pool was extremely competitive, with proceedings papers from nearly 300 students being reviewed, from which only a small number were selected for M&M Student Scholar Awards.
The award is sponsored by the Microanalysis Society and include a complimentary student registration for the full M&M 2019 meeting and financial support of up to $1,000 to help defray expenses to attend the meeting. Yun and Zhang will be honored at the Microscopy & Microanalysis 2019 Meeting in Portland, Oregon on August 4-8, 2019.
