Hu awarded Minnesota Futures Research Grant

June 29, 2015 - Professor Wei-Shou Hu was awarded a Minnesota Futures Grant for a research proposal on "Glycoengineering of Therapeutic Biologics by Systems Design and Combinational Synthesis." Together with UMN Professors Michael Smanski, Timothy Griffin, and Nikunj Somia, the collaborative research team will use a synthetic biology approach to engineer mammalian cells to produce biologics with designed glycan structure. These protein biologics constitute one of the fastest growing areas of medicine for the treatment of many diseases. The grant will provide nearly $250,000 in research funding over the next two years.
